GUIDE

Get your fit right the first time. Accurate size charts for motorcycle racing suits, MotoGP jackets, touring bags, saddle bags, and rider backpacks β€” with step-by-step measurement instructions.

Step 1

How to Take
Your Measurements

Use a soft tape measure. Wear a thin base layer only β€” no bulky clothing. Ask a friend to help for accuracy. Take each measurement twice and use the larger number.

A
Chest
Measure around the fullest part of your chest, just under the armpits. Keep the tape horizontal and snug but not compressing. Arms relaxed at your sides.
B
Waist
Measure around your natural waistline β€” the narrowest part of your torso, usually 1–2 inches above your navel. Don't suck in your stomach; breathe normally.
C
Hips
Measure around the widest point of your hips and seat, typically 7–9 inches below the natural waist. Keep the tape level around the fullest area.
D
Inseam
From the crotch seam to the ankle bone. Stand straight with feet together. This measurement is critical for one-piece suits β€” don't skip it.
E
Height
Stand barefoot with your back flat against a wall. Measure from the floor to the top of your head. This determines overall suit length and leg fit.
F
Arm Length
From the shoulder seam (where shoulder meets arm) to the wrist bone. Keep your arm slightly bent at 90Β°, as if gripping handlebars, for the most accurate racing fit.
🎽

Wear a base layer Measure in the base layer you'll ride in. A thermal undersuit or compression layer adds bulk that affects fit.

πŸ‘€

Ask a friend Chest, back, and inseam are nearly impossible to measure accurately on yourself. One wrong measurement leads to the wrong size.

πŸ“

Between sizes? Go up Leather suits stretch 3–5% after break-in (2–3 ride sessions). If you're between sizes, size up for comfort; the leather will conform to your body.

One-piece vs two-piece fit One-piece suits run snug β€” they're designed for an aerodynamic, second-skin fit. In riding position they feel natural. Two-piece suits are more relaxed and easier to wear off the bike. For two-piece, match jacket and trousers to your chest and waist measurements separately.

Applies to: MotoGP Racing Jackets Β· Custom Made Jackets Β· One-Piece & Two-Piece Jackets. Jackets are sized by chest and arm length primarily.

Jacket armour check When trying on or measuring: shoulder armour should sit directly on the shoulder joint. Elbow armour must cover the elbow when your arm is bent at 90Β°. Back protector should sit flat across the full upper back without riding up.

Rider backpacks are sized by capacity (litres) and torso length, not clothing size. Use the chart below to find the right fit for your back length.

Step 3

The Riding
Fit Check

Before you accept the fit of any riding gear, perform this quick check in the riding position β€” crouched forward as if on the bike, arms stretched out as if gripping handlebars.

What a Good Fit Looks Like βœ“ Correct
  • βœ“Chest snug but you can breathe fully
  • βœ“Shoulder armour sits on the shoulder joint
  • βœ“Elbow armour covers the elbow when arm is bent
  • βœ“Knee armour aligns with kneecap while crouched
  • βœ“Back protector stays flat and centred
  • βœ“No large skin gaps at wrists or ankles
  • βœ“Suit feels snug off bike but natural in riding position
  • βœ“You can take a deep breath without restriction
Signs the Fit is Wrong βœ— Size Again
  • βœ—Armour shifts away from joints when you move
  • βœ—Chest so tight you can't take a full breath
  • βœ—Back protector rides up and exposes lower back
  • βœ—Sleeves so short they pull away from gloves
  • βœ—Legs so short they gap above boots
  • βœ—Excessive fabric bunching under the arms
  • βœ—Shoulder seams drooping below the shoulder
  • βœ—Trouser crotch feels too high or pulls uncomfortably

Common Questions

Sizing
FAQ

How do I measure for a motorcycle racing suit?

You need six measurements: chest (around fullest part under armpits), waist (natural waistline), hips (widest point), inseam (crotch to ankle), height (barefoot against wall), and arm length (shoulder seam to wrist with arm at 90Β°). Always measure wearing only a thin base layer and ask a friend to help for accuracy on the chest, back, and inseam.

Do Fortify Sports racing suits run true to size?

Our suits follow standard European sizing. If you fall exactly between two sizes, we recommend sizing up for touring use or staying true-to-size for track use where a snug aerodynamic fit is preferred. Leather suits naturally stretch 3–5% after break-in (typically 2–3 riding sessions of 1–2 hours). The biggest stretching occurs across the chest and shoulders.

What capacity touring bags do I need for a week-long trip?

For a 7–10 day tour, plan for 70–100L total across your whole luggage setup. A typical setup would be: large saddle bags (2Γ—25–30L = 50–60L) + expandable tail bag (35–40L). A tank bag adds 10–15L for valuables and quick-access items. Pack the rule of thumb β€” allow 10–15L per night of touring. Experienced long-distance riders tend to pack lighter over time.

What's the difference between one-piece and two-piece suit sizing?

One-piece suits are sized by the dominant measurement β€” usually chest β€” but torso length and inseam are critical because there's no waist break. Riders with long legs and short torsos (or vice versa) often do better with a custom one-piece. Two-piece suits let you size the jacket and trousers independently, so you can size M for a slimmer jacket fit and L for the trousers if your proportions vary.

How do I know if a saddle bag will fit my bike?

Measure two things on your bike: (1) the horizontal distance from your rear turn signal to the back of the rider's seat β€” this determines max bag length; and (2) the clearance between the potential bag position and your exhaust pipes. Allow at least 2–3cm clearance from exhaust heat. Our rackless throw-over bags include an adjustable yoke strap that accommodates most seat widths. Contact us with your bike model and we'll confirm fit compatibility.

Can I order a custom size if I don't fit standard charts?

Absolutely. As a direct manufacturer, we offer custom-made racing suits and jackets built to your exact six measurements at no additional cost over standard sizing for individual retail orders. Simply choose "Custom Made" in the product options, enter your measurements at checkout, and we'll build your gear to fit. Custom production takes 3–4 weeks. For wholesale custom orders, minimum 50 units applies.
